Tooth Fillings

There remains a few choices of materials to fill teeth.  The majority of fillings placed today are tooth colored composite material.  Composites are continually improving and we believe will eventually completely replace the use of amalgams (silver fillings).

Amalgams still have a place in dentistry and different dentists have different ideas about them.  Dr. Chunn is happy to discuss his position on amalgams with you and explain why there has been such controversy over recent years.

Many different types of porcelain are now available for restorations that would properly be categorized as inlays or onlays.

Gold is still available as a filling material and remains the option that will last the longest and give the least problems.  Admittedly, we rarely do gold fillings any longer due to the high cost of gold and the fact white fillings are more pleasing esthetically.
